Belly dance is about shining as an individual
Candida is a powerhouse of skills and experience in a wide variety of areas. She is a multi-talented, multi-faceted, dynamic and one-of-a-kind individual with an undying passion for learning, teaching, but most of all dancing.
When she's not dancing, Candida is a learning and development executive, a field of work she's been passionately engaged in for over 20 years. She is happily married and the mother of 3 amazing children.
Belly dancing was instrumental in her last two pregnancies ensuring that she stayed fit, healthy and flexible, strengthening her core in preparation for child birth as well as assisting in a speedy post-partum recovery.
It was motherhood that prompted her to start belly dance when her first child was a toddler. She faced the challenge that many moms do... a life filled with kids, husband and work demands with little space or time for herself.
Sound familiar? Do yourself a favour and take a look at our class options for some 'me time' - just for you.
It was through a flyer handed to her at a flea market by a customer that piqued her interest in belly dance...
Let's be honest, the shiny coin belt may also have played a part in enticing to the art form. Can anyone say magpie syndrome?
She made the decision to go for that trial class one Tuesday evening and the rest, is as they say, history. The belly bug bit hard and hasn't let go.
Over the years Candida has had a remarkable dance journey, starting out as the 24 year old who believed she couldn't dance to running a successful studio that has stood the test of time /within the local bellydance community. Many fellow bellydance studio principals had their very first class with Candida.
She has performed for ambassadors from several countries in the Middle East and has been the resident dancer for a number of Middle Eastern restaurants in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
She's been interviewed for magazine articles and radio shows to discuss the benefits of belly dance.
Candida has travelled to Egypt twice, taking groups of dancers over, to broaden her dance practice and deepen her understanding of Middle Eastern culture.
She has attended numerous workshops with international belly dancers and Bellydance Superstars and continues to do so at every opportunity.
Candida's background as a performer, adult educator and drama teacher give her a tremendous foundation to work from in delivering high impact and engaging dance classes.
In her dance classes, she focuses both on technique and excellent delivery coupled with an eagle eye for detail. Her passionate yet effective interpretation in executing bellydance is held to the highest of standards.
She also has an uncanny knack for coaxing self-confidence and stage presence out of the most introverted of students.
She truly gets people while respectfully pushing their boundaries.
She is especially passionate about the folkloric styles of bellydance like Saidi and Khaliji. Recently her personal dance training focus has taken her into the realms of ATS©, American Tribal Style, which she has applied to her already excellent Tribal Fusion skill-set.
All of this illustrates Candida's exemplary repertoire of training that she draws from naturally.
